Introduction
The NF650iSLIT-A marks the third ECS motherboard that we have reviewed here at Auphanonline. Both of the KN1 Extreme boards that we reviewed back in the Athlon 64 era proved to be remarkably well made given their low price tag, so we had high hopes with regards to ECS's efforts with Nvdia's 650 Intel chipset.
ECS's first foray into Nvidia's 6xx intel chipset came in the form of the 680i, which after a few bios revisions has been wowing reviewers all across the internet. Part of the reason for this is that all of the early 680i boards were completely made by Nvidia according to Nvidia's reference design. This is the reason why ECS's 680i board looks exactly like the 680i board sold by BFG and EVGA.
With the 650i on the other hand, motherboard manufacters play a much larger role in making design decisions by determining what features to include and deciding how to best construct the board. This kind of freedom can be a two edged sword. On the one hand this allows individual manufacturers to improve on an already solid design. On the other hand this also allows individual manufacterers to cut certain costs in order to provide a budget board with fewer features. What path did ECS take with the NF650iSLIT-A? Read on to find out.
